Joe's New Blog

Nothing special, this is just my third effort at writing a blog about my life and what goes on in it: Hobbies, cooking, work, maybe the occasional book or DVD review, and so forth. Nothing really noteworthy, but this is sort of a little subset of my world...

Tired

I am just really tired of everything right now. My job, into which I'm not really all that settled, is now in an even more unstable state as my boss, the only one I've worked under in this position, has been moved to a different department. Which leaves me kind of in the lurch as far as what's going to be expected of me from here on out. My "band" has not been together for at least a month now. I asked them probably six months ago where we wanted to get as a group, and I heard all the right things, but we obviously haven't moved very far in the direction of either recording or playing live. No, we still play probably once every two or three weeks, on average, in the drummer's family room. The girlfriend wants to move to Austin in the next couple of months, which means that we'll both get to start over in our career paths. That should be loads of fun. I just don't know that I want to go through all of this crap all over again. Damn it, I'm tired...

Day off...

I took the day off from work today. I had hoped to get a few things done around the house, and specifically I'd hoped to get some things done with my music. I have a couple of songs that I've been trying to work on lately, but I'm having a hard time getting the parts recorded well when I have the ambition to work on them. Unfortunately, today I didn't get them done, either. I did at least get the bass part for one of them recorded fairly well, though, after realizing that the drum part that I'd come up with didn't quite have the right structure. So now I have a bass part with no drum part, but I'm hoping I can resolve that problem tomorrow and work from there.

I did get a new light hung up in the bedroom, which made the girlfriend quite happy. It's been kind of dark in there since we moved down, but the new light fixture brightens the place up quite well. Not sure how I feel about the fluorescent bulbs, but they're a whole hell of a lot better than the dingy yellow light that came through the shade on the old fixture. So it wasn't a totally lost day, in any case. But tomorrow, it's back to the grind...
